Augustus could be seen as one of the most economically smart rulers anywhere near his time. The revenues earned from the senatorial provinces were put directly into the treasury of the senate, while the inflow of money from imperial provinces went to the fiscus (treasury of the emperor). Under either a senate with new power, or under an emperor with good morals, it was seen that the provinces of Rome increased in both prosperity and wealth quickly. ![]() The senatorial provinces were those who remained in control of the senate, while the imperial provinces were now under control of the emperor. The provinces were now divided into two separate groups. The entirety of Italy was then split up into eleven regions (administrative districts), a curator viarurn (“superintendent of highways”) was installed to keep the large system of roads in good condition, and a post system was introduced all of these steps clearly showed Augustus’ desire for the Roman people to live a clean, systematic life.Įach of the seperate “police” forces that were installed were controlled by a specific chief for example, the praefectus vigilum was the chief in charge of the fire and detective department.Īugustus did a lot of work in reorganizing not only the system of Rome’s provinces but the money flow of the provinces as well. He hoped that the introduction of these police forces to Roman society will decrease the extreme violence that had been seen in recent previous years of Roman history. He separated the Roman city into 14 wards or districts, and put in place special “police” forces to enforce law and order throughout the city. ![]() Finally, he introduced the “praetorian guard”, a system of protection used for inside of Italy.Īs stated above, Augustus’ goal during his reign was to attempt to make Rome as systematic, organized, and peaceful as he could. Augustus also decreased the Roman army from 50 legions to only 20 and spread them throughout the provinces so the Roman army was less of a burden on the people of Rome. He did not change much about the cursus honorum (which, again, is the process of moving up the ranks of the Roman magistracies) and he saw the current republic magistrates as a special, executive position. Augustus did not deem the populus responsible for making major political decisions, and took away a lot of power from the assemblies of the people (they were now mainly only kept to vote for new magistrates). He brought back a strong sense of dignity and nobility from being on the senate by decreasing the amount of people on the senate, as well as taking away some provincial powers. Of all the titles he had received, he was fond of being referred as by one in particular: Princeps Civitates, which means “first citizen of the state”.Īugustus made many important reforms in the beginning of his rule, having to do with both nobile causes and popular causes. Just to name a couple, he was bestowed proconsular power ( imperium proconsulare), he retained the title of Imperator (which allowed him to stay in control of the roman army), and he was made pontifex maximus (“chief priest”). Obviously enough, being the first emperor of a very new type of monarchy for Rome, Augustus took on several new titles that provided him with the power that he held. The Roman senate were the ones who actually gave Octavius the title of Augustus, for Augustus wanting to restore power back to the Roman senate in his new reforms. He proved that he was a strong politician throughout his gaining of power, and his rule proved also that he was a very successful statesman. Augustus’s sole purpose was to wipe out the hatred and confusion that was caused by the civil war. He did his best to keep all conservative forms of government and keep most political shapes in tact. They resorted back to monarchy mainly because this was the only true way for Rome to be ruled.Īugustus was the beginning of the time called the Principate period, which is characterized as a time where rulers of the new monarchy tried their best to preserve aspects of the Roman Republic. Yet, no republican form of government could keep the Roman state in line. He was never referred to as “king”, however the Romans were not fond of this word. Officially, after the battle of Actium in 31 BC, Octavius (Augustus from here on) was the sole ruler of Rome. ![]() The Roman Empire: Augustus and the Principate Period ![]() ![]() ![]() I’m not going to argue the physics behind the effects at work here (after all, there is no spoon), but it’s a classic explosion nonetheless. Special effects explosions used to be created using gasoline and a match, but a digital explosion is a safer, high-tech way to add a big bang to a film. The well-executed angles just makes the experience more enjoyable. A helicopter nose dives into a glass-plated building. Having a building explode on you would certainly ruin your day. Although the extreme violence in this scene is wince-inducing, I always felt bad for the guy riding his bike outside the theater. Of course, the movie’s conclusion is rife with historical inaccuracy, but to some, it’s an ending that the despotic dictator deserved. I’m not sure if this needs to be prefaced but the following video is NSFW (as are most Tarantino films). Keeping with Quentin Tarantino’s taste for the ultra-violent, it was no surprised when Inglourious Basterds went out with a very large bang. Choose your weapon or a superpower from this weapon photo editor. The blast itself might not be as impressive as some CGI-constructed monstrosity, but is a perfect example of how they can be an artful, if not vital, component to a film. Add some movie poster photo frame and choose among various special movie effects and stickers such as fire picture effects, explosion effects, nuclear explosion fx, thunder photo effect and many other movie fx photo effects, realistic photo stickers and superpower effects. However, one of the filmmaker’s early works shows just how good explosions are at building tension. His technique was usually a little more subtle. But in Kwai, the bridge’s destruction is a symbol for the film’s thematic message on war as a whole, as Major Clipton aptly describes in the closing scene as “madness.”Īlfred Hitchcock wasn’t exactly known for his artful use of big-time booms in his films. Many times, explosions are exactly what they seem: dazzling and destructive. And Seriously, how long is that fuse?īefore he was beach-bumming on Tatooine, Alec Guiness was known by many as Lieutenant Colonel Nicholson in David Lean’s The Bridge on the River Kwai. Although the explosion actually occurs off camera, there’s a certain art and charm that surrounds this entire sequence. But Adam West’s lovable (borderline Slapstick) Batman makes this scene that much better. This might not be the Batman movie you had in mind, and Christopher Nolan’s hospital explosion in The Dark Knight is an honorable mention. Honorable mentions: Die Hard, Fight Club, The Dark Knight, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Ghostbusters All explosions included are of the traditional variety, the severe head trauma in Scanners (headsplosion?) and the luscious visuals in Inception (dreamsplosion?) were not included. Of course, a few are on the list because they just look cool. The criteria for this list expands beyond just the visual and also keeps in mind the importance of the explosion to the rest of the film. The following list represents some of the most memorable explosions in film history. A well-known tool of the trade for action flicks and spy thrillers, explosions all serve the same purpose: destruction. As the special effects have evolved, so has their role in movies. And there are few things more visually appealing than a kick-ass explosion. Sure, we love those quiet moments in a Wim Wenders film as much as the next mid-brow entertainment website, but today we embrace our inner 12-year-old. ![]() ![]() ![]() Take the time and clean it up nice…Once everything is clean you’ll be able to see all the spot welds. There is a lot of gunk under there and having everything clean is key. Once all the fuel and brake lines are out of the way it’s time to begin removing the old boxes.įirst, clean the entire area with brake clean or something similar (See figure 2). You might also want to plug the fuel lines so nothing gets in there. Be careful of dripping gas and hot drop lights. Everything is very flexible and we didn’t have ANY problems clearing this area or tying anything out of the way. Next, remove the fuel lines from the filter so they swing out of the way. 2 up top towards the back and 2 along the inside of the frame rail (See figure 1). I believe there are 4 clips holding them to the car. Next, you have to clear all the fuel lines. You need to remove the bracket with the “Y” and soft line and let that hang down and out of the way (NOTE: this bracket will have to be modified…more on that later). Lower the rear out of the way and move on. I’m not going to go into a detailed rear removal tutorial but after the brake lines and emergency brake cables are clear, support the rear with a transmission jack (or whatever) and remove all the control arm bolts from the chassis (leaving the control arms with the rear – ). It also helps to remove the flow tubes, mufflers and tailpipes so everything is clear. Most of it just peels back…if not use a scraper and a head gun or blow dryer if necessary…While you’re in the interior you’ll need to remove the seat belt bolts too! You’ll also want to clean most of the rubbery sticky insulation stuff off so the interior plates can mount flush and be properly welded. I had towels on the front seats and used cardboard to shield welding sparks. The passenger’s compartment carpet just needs to be pulled back a bit. Obviously the rear of the interior needs to be removed…this includes the seat backs, hinge brackets, the seat bottom, all the seat area insulation and the hatch area carpet. (Entire gallery of pics can be found HERE) This way, when I reference something, you’re familiar with what I’m talking about. I’d recommend checking out all my pictures before reading my install instructions. Ok, enough yapping and on with the install. Had I done the upper torque box reinforcements (aka battle boxes or torque box repair kits) I would have been ok but I only did the lower kit (at the time I did the lower kit no one even made a kit for the uppers). It’s beefy, not too difficult to install and has 3 mounting points for the upper arms. After ripping out my passengers’ side upper torque box at Atco in April 2008 it was time to get serious so I picked up the Wild Rides S-box (aka the Stang Box) to solve the problem. ![]() ![]() It’s like the truck is turning off as I’m driving, but it doesn’t feel like it. “I just purchased my 2021 Blazer RS, and the dash started acting up after 3000 miles. Here is how one Chevy Blazer owner described their experience: The same issue has also been reported in 2021 models of the GMC Acadia, Chevy Camaro and Chevy Malibu. It doesn’t affect the drivability of the vehicle, but you’ll momentarily lose the speedometer, as well as other important information that’s displayed on the digital dash. This issue only occurs in the RS and Premier trim levels which have the larger digital display in the middle. Sometimes, the dash will only light back up after restarting the car. Owners report that the entire instrument cluster will intermittently turn itself off and start back up again while they’re driving. The 2021 models of the Chevrolet Blazer are more prone to instrument cluster issues than all other model years. Older GM vehicles that had similar issues did get a software update which seems to have gotten rid of the vibrations, but there are no official updates for the Blazer yet. However, this does result in slightly worse gas mileage.ĭealers who are not familiar with the issue will typically try to balance the tires or check the drivetrain and engine mounts to no avail since it’s actually caused by the cylinder deactivation. Some owners have resorted to using an aftermarket AFM disabler, which can be plugged into the OBDII port, to get rid of the annoying vibrations. Unfortunately, GM doesn’t provide any way to permanently disable the AFM system. Doesn’t seem to be as much of an issue at lower speeds.” Solution Seems to want to deactivate cylinders too much. “It almost feels like the transmission is holding the higher gear and lugging the motor because the noise disappears after a downshift.” I didn’t experience this issue in the 5K miles I have put on the Blazer up until then.” “I took my 2019 Blazer RS into the dealership for a slight shudder when cruising at 35 to 40 mph with very light throttle. Here is how a few Chevy Blazer owners describe the issue: Other GM vehicles that use the same V6 engine like the GMC Acadia and Cadillac XT5 also have similar issues. Some vehicles have this issue as soon as they leave the factory while others only exhibit it after a couple thousand miles. This is when the Active Fuel Management (AFM) deactivates 2 cylinders to save on gas and runs in V4 mode, which you can tell by a light on the dash. It usually starts at around 35 mph while the engine is running at 1,500 RPMs. ![]() It’s also often accompanied by a light chatter or flutter sound. The vibration or shuddering is similar to the feeling you get when driving over rumble strips but at a much lower intensity. This problem only occurs in the 20 models. Some Chevy Blazers equipped with the V6 engine have vibration issues while cruising at highway speeds. Some owners were also able to get rid of the error by ‘shorting’ the Park switch permanently. If the car is no longer under warranty, the part itself costs around $100. GM has issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that recommends replacing the entire shifter assembly in order to fix the faulty Park switch. This eventually activates the switch and gets rid of the error message and the accompanying electrical issues. The most common workaround to this problem is to simply press the shifter button several times and move around the shift lever a bit. The ‘Shift to Park’ error message is caused by a faulty microswitch in the shifter assembly that tells the car’s computers when the car is in Park as a safety measure. Have to move shifter several times so message will disappear.” Solution When vehicle is in Park, instrument panel says Shift to Park. I cannot turn off the car or lock the doors.” “Shift to park displays despite being in park. Here is how a few owners described the issue: It also shows up in a lot of other GM vehicles like the GMC Acadia, Chevy Malibu and Chevy Traverse. This ‘Shift to Park’ issue occurs mostly in the 2019 model years of the Blazer, and we’ve seen a few reports of it happening in the 2020 model.
